I was so excited for this wedding, especially as I had already captured the moment Danielle proposed to Abi. Being trusted to then go on and photograph their wedding day as well was such an honour, and it made the whole experience feel even more special from the very start.
The story really begins with the proposal. Danielle initially got in touch after I’d put out a model call for my dog photography business. She asked whether we could disguise the session as a dog shoot and then secretly capture her proposing to Abi. Of course, I was all in. It turned into such a beautiful and emotional moment, which I also filmed on my phone after telling Abi I needed some behind the scenes footage. Their dog, Paddy, did his absolute best to steal the show, helping himself to treats mid proposal and adding even more personality to the moment.
Fast forward to the wedding day and my first visit to Wyresdale. I was joined by my friend and fellow photographer Martyn Hathaway so we could cover both sets of morning preparations. Martyn photographed Danielle getting ready while I captured Abi’s morning. We felt this was the best way to keep the peace, as Martyn, like Danielle, is a Manchester United fan, whereas I’m very much a Liverpool fan. We were also joined by Mike from Drop D Wedding Films on videography. I always love working alongside a videographer; it’s great to bounce ideas off one another and collaborate to get the best possible coverage of the day.
While Abi and Danielle were getting ready, we also took some time to wander around the venue and capture the setting. It was lovely to be working alongside Bluebells & Daisies (Gemma) again. I’m always a huge fan of their work and know I can rely on them for stunning florals, and they certainly didn’t disappoint. The colours were absolutely beautiful, and a massive thank you to Gemma for kindly giving me some extra florals for the flat lay shots as well.
The ceremony itself was full of joy, love and plenty of happy tears. One of my favourite parts of any ceremony is capturing the reactions, not just from the couple, but from their friends and family too. Abi’s nephew provided plenty of entertainment and had everyone laughing. I’m always a big believer in letting kids just be kids during a wedding. It keeps them happy and often leads to some of the most genuine and joyful moments when you look back through the photos.
The weather was on our side, which meant we could head outside for confetti shots and couple portraits. Abi and Danielle were also keen to head out on the boat, which I was very excited about as it makes for such lovely, relaxed images. Danielle did an excellent job rowing, despite some initial doubts from Abi. One photo in particular always makes me laugh, Danielle rowing away confidently while Abi sits back with her glass raised in the air like royalty.
From the moment Abi and Danielle booked me, I knew it was going to be one hell of a day and it absolutely did not disappoint. One of my favourite moments came during the wedding breakfast. With both of them working in football, they decided to swap the traditional napkin waving for football scarves instead. Seeing all the different coloured scarves being waved around the room while Jess Taylor Sax played was such a fun and personal touch, and it completely lifted the atmosphere.
The evening celebrations kicked off in style with a champagne tower and cake cut before moving straight into the first dance. The dance floor quickly filled, with guests fully throwing themselves into the celebrations. One moment I especially loved was seeing Abi and Danielle’s dads having a dance together, such a lovely, relaxed moment that perfectly summed up the warmth of the day.
From start to finish, it was an incredible wedding filled with love, laughter and personality.
